When Novalis needed to update their catalog design, they wanted to maintain the clean, clear approach Whiteboard had introduced the previous year while adding elements that would spark creativity for both DIY enthusiasts and professional designers. The challenge was evolving beyond a purely functional catalog into an inspirational resource that would help viewers envision possibilities. Our solution integrated material boards throughout the catalog – showcasing Novalis products paired with complementary design materials, alongside collage pages that combined room scenes with potential paint pairings and inspiration imagery. This approach transformed product presentation from simple documentation into creative exploration. Working with photographer Grant Dotson, we captured compelling material board vignettes that demonstrated how Novalis products integrate into complete design concepts. Adams Lithographing elevated the final piece through sophisticated printing techniques, including subtle soft aqueous coating and debossing on the cover, plus spot UV gloss on each vignette and collage against matte Sappi Flo paper backgrounds. The result was a tactile, inspiring catalog that functioned as both product reference and design tool.
