Flexible logo system for neighborhood restaurant with 1980s aesthetic
Experienced restaurateurs Mike & Taylor Monen and Tenley Mayfield approached Whiteboard to develop branding for their fifth restaurant concept, Clyde's On Main. The name honored the building's history as Clyde's Auto Glass, whose iconic painted wall sign was a beloved neighborhood landmark. Whiteboard embraced this local connection by basing the logo design on the original auto glass signage, creating an authentic link to the community's collective memory. Understanding that Clyde's was conceived as a "go-to" local spot with a deliberately undesigned, 1980s-inspired aesthetic, our design team created an intentionally flexible logo system. Rather than one rigid mark, we developed multiple logo variations that could adapt to any production method - flat bold art for painted signs, outlined lettering for rubber stamps, simplified forms for neon applications, and various other treatments. This approach resulted in an interchangeable family of logos with unified DNA but distinct personalities, perfectly matching the restaurant's eclectic, neighborhood-friendly character while providing practical versatility for real-world applications.
