Restaurant brand evolution and expansion

I Saw the Sign
Smith Hanes
Mike and Taylor Monen's first restaurant, Taco Mamacita, opened in 2008 on Chattanooga's North Shore and quickly became a city staple and local favorite. After creating eight more restaurant concepts including a brewery and music hall, an opportunity arose in 2020 to move their Nashville location to the thriving Germantown neighborhood.
We partnered with Taco Mamacita founders Mike and Taylor Monen during a pivotal restaurant expansion, helping rebrand their beloved Chattanooga establishment for a new Nashville Germantown location in the historic Little's Fish Market building. Working closely with Smith Hanes interior design and Dryden Architecture & Design, we created a bridge between Taco Mamacita's established identity and their evolving vision, developing logo concepts that honored the original marquee sign lettering while fitting the clean, modern aesthetic. Our team designed comprehensive restaurant graphics including signage, murals, posters, merchandise, and menus, collaborating with I Saw the Sign's talented Nashville sign painters to bring the vision to life through hand-painted elements that captured both the gritty humor and rock'n'roll spirit that makes Taco Mamacita special, resulting in a warm, charmingly imperfect, thoroughly vibrant human touch.
