Comprehensive wayfinding system for community retail concept celebrating industrial architecture heritage
Working in close collaboration with Jamestown Properties and Revival Studio, Whiteboard developed a comprehensive sign system for Warehouse Row, an innovative community retail concept that celebrated the industrial heritage of its location. The project required creating wayfinding and identification signage that honored what Revival Studio described as the 'lush aesthetic inspired by the humble grandeur of the original architecture.' Our design approach drew deep inspiration from vintage warehouse painting traditions and historical industrial wayfinding systems, creating authentic connections to the site's manufacturing past. The diverse sign types we developed included directional wayfinding, tenant identification, and community messaging, all unified by consistent typography and materials that reflected the building's industrial character. Each sign element was carefully designed to feel naturally integrated with the existing architecture while providing clear, functional guidance for visitors navigating this unique retail environment. The comprehensive system successfully bridged the gap between historical authenticity and contemporary retail needs, supporting Warehouse Row's mission to create a distinctive shopping destination that honors its industrial roots.
